Unwelcomed/Welcomed Interference

Description

When an anthromrophid ventures off his/her weekly "hunt" interval, their expenditure is not always passed in uneventful solitude.

An anthromorphid often faces the conflict of encountering other species. Factors such as rival history, specie tension (such as with Canidae and the Pantheriae classes) or encroaching on each other's personal "territory" can render a hunt into an all-out donnybrook.

When Zimmer took his customary weekly "hunt", his hunting path crossed over into a hunt held by a trio of coyotes.

Although coyotes and foxes hailing from certain regions in Zimmer's former mortal universe were allies, Zimmer(hailing from a different region than the coyotes) found himself attempting to defend his territory.

Being smaller and leaner in stature, and endowed with smaller teeth, Zimmer was outmatched in terms of strength as well as number- his sole self against a trio of hardy coyotes.

Although he held his own ground, he was gradually overcome by the trio- especially when one coyote struck him in the chest and caused something of a minor blood clot which rendered him completely weakened.

Disobeying her employer's typical orders he be left alone during his weekly "hunt" had followed her employer. Masking her presence invisibly, Natalia followed Zimmer throughout his hunt and observed the mismatched brawl between her obstinate boss and the troublesome coyotes.

Unable to watch Zimmer unfairly pitted against his exceeding rivals any longer, Natalia disregarded reservations about his reprimands and manifested herself into an electrifying force appearing as a liquid shadow. Having shocked the coyotes and sending them on the run, Natalia revealed herself to a now outraged Zimmer.

Incensed by her unsolicited interference, Zimmer snarled and threatened to dismiss her services, railing insistently he was more than capable of handling the coyote pack. When his impertinent bodyguard retorted his vanity had him pouting like a child and that she had not inteferred, he would have been a mangled carcass, he attempts to lunge and bite her- only to collapse from the sudden movement.

Catching the vulpine in her arms, Natalia carried her unconscious boss to his "cabin" (actually a spartan cottage tucked beside small, rocky waterfall).

Gaining conscious, Zimmer sneered at her exhortations to take him back to the city to see a doctor, citing that he could tend to himself. That is how the order of being in this state works, he insisted.

When he began licking his own wounds, an irked Natalia chided him, insisting she at least clean his injuries. The peevish fox retorted that empirical evidence showed that animals and anthromorphids' saliva had anti-septic qualities, Natalia changed her strategy of persuasion. His injuries, she pointed out, would require a longer recuperation and that he would be forced to accept that fact he was defeated if he reported in sick for his classes.

Begrudgingly, Zimmer allowed her to clean and bandage his injuries. Further placating her irascible employer, Natalia flattered and praised his predatory prowess (though in truth, she was genuinely impressed with his skill and tenacity, esp given his size) which lulled the vain fox into a self-assured stupor and assuaged his wounded ego at the day's defeat.

Growing drowsy as she finished binding the last injury, Zimmer dozed off, laying his head in her lap like an artless child.  He mumbled in his light slumber, yarning about fables his mother once told him when he was a kit.  Uncertain how to react, Natalia strokes his mane (hair) not unlike a mother does a child.

Rousing from his dozing, a newly humbled Zimmer thanked Natalia for her efforts. He also (albeit somewhat abash) asks her if she would accompany him on his hunts- invisible, of course.

He claims he's been solitary for so long, he tires of it and would appreciate her company if she can tolerate his bestial behaviors and acts.

Natalia, touched by his new demeanor and thoughtful proposal, quietly accepts.

I love this sweet scene so much. It's great how, as we said last night, the power dynamics between Zimmer and Natalia are not always so clear. Though he's her employer, there are times like this when it seems like she has more "power" over him (notwithstanding the fact that as a wraith, she can tear him apart in just a few seconds). It's so sweet--his expression here is totally innocent and straightforward. I think seeing more of his bestial form kind of leads to Natalia developing feelings for him (which explode when he turns human).
